Welcome to my High Carb Fat Loss review.
I’ve written a number of articles recently about carbs, more specifically why I don’t believe that carbs are the devil incarnate, and why they shouldn’t be viewed as the enemy.
Unfortunately, this is not how many other people view carbs, especially with the explosion of low-carb diets in the 21st century.
Even though Robert Atkins first created his diet in the 1960s it didn’t gain widespread popularity until 2003 and 2004 (I’m ashamed to say that I too jumped on the Atkins bandwagon).
Fast forward a few years and by 2008 all everyone was talking about was Paleo this and Paleo that.
A couple of years later by 2010 whispers of the “next best thing”, the ketogenic diet, were being spoken about, although it took another 5 years until 2015 for everyone to be raging about keto.
And let’s be honest, ever since then the keto diet, popular for its low-carb high-fat approach, has gone off the Richter scale.
So, when I found a program that claims you can eat a high amount of carbs, while still losing weight, and the ability to achieve a lean body, my interest was certainly piqued.

What is the High Carb Fat Loss Program?
Well I guess the clue is in the name.
The High Carb Fat Loss program is actually a complete course which advocates the eating of carbs, while keeping dietary fat to a minimum, and still losing weight and achieving your body composition goals.
High Carb Fat Loss goes completely against many of the most popular low-carb, high-fat diets of the last two decades, and explains it is fat that is the enemy (more specifically the wrong types of fats when eaten together with the wrong types of carbs), and not carbs.
The High Carb Fat Loss course is a PDF guide, which covers the history of both high-carb and low-carb diets, as well as discussing how the body deals with the intake of carbs and fats.
You will also receive specific diet and meal plans, as well as the exact eating plan that the creator’s follow.
Finally, there is access to a private Facebook Group, which many claim is the best part of the entire program, as members share success stories, tips and advice, as well as many new recipes and meals.
Who Are The Creators of the High Carb Fat Loss Course?
The High Carb Fat Loss course was created by Rusty Moore and Mark Kislich.
Rusty Moore is a full-time fitness writer and the owner of the highly successful website visualimpactfitness.com.
Rusty’s background includes (as he likes to call it) being a “Full-Blown Meathead”, although he says he’s now a “Recovering Meathead”.
Basically, when his fitness journey first began way back in 1987 he just wanted to be as muscular as possible.
His love for the Bench Press, Squat, and Deadlift was born.
Rusty packed on an impressive 50lb in muscle to his frame over a number of years, but mainly to his lower body, which led to difficulties in finding pants that fitted properly.
He actually went about trying to find out how to lose muscle, but obviously no one ever teaches you this.
Rusty’s training has dramatically changed over the last decade or so, and his focus now is far more geared towards adding muscle density and muscle tone without adding size.
And this is mainly what you will find on Rusty’s highly-successful fitness blog.
It was via Rusty’s blog that he first came into contact with Mark Kislich.
Mark is Olympic Strength & Conditioning coach who hails from Iceland.
Mark provided some great tips in the comment section of Rusty’s blog, and their friendship grew from here.
Even though Mark coached and trained Olympic athletes he had always struggled to stay lean himself (I’ve always claimed that some of the best coaches in the world, irrespective of what type of discipline they coach, are usually not the best players or athletes themselves)..
However, prior to meeting each other, Mark had lost an amazing 100lbs.
The guys lost touch with each other for a number of years until Mark posted this picture of himself on his Facebook timeline.
Mark just happens to be in his mid-40s.
Rusty was clearly blown away and had to know Mark’s secret, and this is when the high-carb, low-fat eating plan was first revealed.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
How Does High Carb Fat Loss Work?
Okay, before you get overly excited about feasting on carbs, it’s probably best to reveal that we are talking about whole foods here, and not the refined crap that many of us love to eat, such as fries, pizza, sugar-ladened desserts, etc.
You’re not going to get away with eating whatever carbs you want.
However, eating the right types of carbs is definitely on the menu.
In fact, inside the course you’ll learn how the body actually rarely stores carbs as body fat to any significant degree, which goes against much of what we learn from low-carb, high-fat diets like keto.
Basically, the vast majority of the fat that we see on our body comes from the fats we eat (makes sense I guess).
Rusty even says that the low-fat diet craze of the 1980s was almost correct, although there was one major flaw to it. And you will discover more on this inside the course.
You will also learn that the excess carbs that we consume actually get stored in your muscles as glycogen.
The only time that the body will attempt to convert carbs into fat is when our glycogen stores are full, i.e. the muscles are 100% full of glycogen.
However, the body will rarely reach this point.
There is far more revealed about the workings of dietary fat and carbs (and your protein intake as well, and why you may not need as much protein as you think, even if your aim is to produce a lean, muscular body), many of these facts and figures can be found on the next page here.

What Did I Think of High Carb Low Fat?
Firstly, I have known of Rusty Moore for a number of years, and I like the material that he produces.
In fact, his blog and various programs (which always until now focused on the fitness and training aspect of health) pretty much mirrored my beliefs around training.
I’m not your typical “meathead”, I’m certainly not about getting as big as possible, and I mainly focus on producing a lean, muscular body that is fully functional.
So, you could say that I was already a fan of Rusty’s.
Secondly, I’m no longer someone who believes that cutting carbs is the ideal way to lose weight and burn fat.
As I’ve mentioned, I followed the Atkins diet for a while back in the day, but it certainly wasn’t something I stuck with for too long.
I’ll even admit that I have occasionally cut-out bread for a few weeks because I wish to flatten my stomach.
However, I knew that it wasn’t so much bread that was the issue, but rather the type of bread I was consuming.
With that said, even though I shouldn’t and I know it’s wrong, I am a lover of refined carbs.
Basically, the wrong type of carbs. Although I have learned to live with these in moderation now.
Therefore, many of the principles that are discussed in the High Carb Fat Loss Course certainly resonated with me, and I often found myself smiling and nodding my head in complete agreement.
This is not to say that I don’t understand the merits of a low-carb, high-fat diet in terms of weight and fat loss, and even Rusty and Mark agree that this type of diet can work to help you achieve your body composition goals.
However, as I’ve said many times before, this type of diet is not sustainable in the long-run.
Additionally, while low-carb, high fat may help you to lose weight, it can wreak havoc with your metabolism.
Realistically, if you want to keep fat off your body and produce an awesome looking physique then lean muscle mass and a high metabolic rate are essential.
I was a little perturbed by some of what I read, and even saw members in the Facebook group discussing the fact that they were losing weight while still eating 350-550g of carbs a day (this is approximately 1,400-2,200 calories a day just in carbs).
I like to keep my carb content at around 250-300g a day, but my fat intake is higher than what the course suggests, as is my protein consumption.
In fact, with the High Carb Fat Loss meal plans your fat intake is as low as 8-10% of your overall diet, which is what allows you to eat additional carbs on a daily basis.
So, if you’re a lover of starchy carbs like rice and potatoes (which I am) you certainly don’t have to impose too many carbohydrate restrictions on yourself by following the High Carb Fat Loss course.
I think the High Carb Fat Loss course is absolutely fantastic, but personally I prefer to have a few more dietary fats on a daily basis.
This is why I have rated the course at 8 out of 10 rather than any higher.
I’m just not into restricting certain food groups, even if it is dietary fats.
With that said, I know many ancient societies have thrived on high-carb, low-fat diets (then again there are also certain societies that have done just as well by eating low-carb, high fat).
One of the most famous of the high-carb eating societies is the traditional Okinawans.
Their diet is typically low in calories, protein and fats, while being exceptionally high in carbs.
Their macronutrient split is around 85% carbs, 9% protein, 6% fat (with 2% coming from saturated fats).
Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country in the world, 84 for men and 90 for women, but the life expectancy is even greater on Okinawa (one of the Ryukyu islands).
In fact, there are more than 400 centenarians in Okinawa, and it is believed that their diet and cuisine is the main factor for this amazing life expectancy.
Unfortunately, the life expectancy in Okinawa has steadily decreased since the turn of the millennium, and one of the overriding reasons for this is westernization (in terms of diet and way of life).
As you can see there is certainly much truth and benefit in following a high-carb, low-fat diet in terms of your health and longevity.
The High Carb Fat Loss course takes this one step further by bringing weight loss and fat loss into the equation.
High Carb Fat Loss is highly recommended and gets a definite thumbs up from me.
- The High Carb Fat Loss course is brought to you by Rusty Moore, someone I hold in high regard, and who has been a leading name in the fitness industry for many years.
- The course will detail the benefits of high-carb eating plans, while also discussing the various (more famous) low-carb, high fat diets.
- The course includes access to meal plans for both vegans and meat-eaters.
- High-carb eating is a proven method of living a healthy lifestyle, as demonstrated by the Okinawans.
- High Carb Fat Loss comes with a Private Facebook Group, which many members hail as one of the greatest elements of this course.
- The entire course and access to the Private Facebook Group is available for just $37.
- You have a 60-day money back guarantee, which means you can try the course out for 2 months and still request a refund if you’re not satisfied.
- This is strictly a course structured around an eating plan and if you are also interested in an attached workout plan then you will need to purchase this separately (Rusty has created various workout plans and you’ll also find many programs on this site).
- There is a restriction of dietary fats within the eating plan, and I’m not particularly a fan of restricting a certain food group, although it certainly seems to have worked for the Okinawans.
The High Carb Fat Loss course is ideal for anyone who wants to lose weight and lose body fat, but without having to give up their favourite carbs.
Although much of the 21st century has been focused on low-carb, high-fat diets, there is proof that high-carb, low-fat diets work extremely well, as is evidenced by the Okinawans.
From a personal perspective I believe that we should be eating carbs, and plenty of them, on a daily basis, and restricting them can have detrimental effects on your health.
So, I can safely say that the High Carb Fat Loss course is definitely something that I would recommend.
